The code aims to:
- Promote better, more informed relations between insurers and their customers
- Improve consumer confidence in the general insurance industry
- Provide better mechanisms for the resolution of complaints and disputes between insurers and their customers
- Commit insurers and the professionals they rely upon to higher standards of customer service

Code Governance Committee
The Code Governance Committee is the independent body that monitors and enforces insurers’ compliance with the General Insurance Code of Practice.
The Code covers many aspects of a consumer’s relationship with their insurer, from buying insurance to making a claim, to providing options to those experiencing financial hardship, to the process for those who wish to make a complaint.
